Team Reece

Team Reece

Team Reece is local charity set up by a Reece Holt before he passed away aged just thirteen from an aggressive Brain Tumour. Reece wanted to help other children in his position and make them smile and give them a break from the endless days in and out of hospital. Reece was also passionate about raising awareness and funding research as currently over 30 children a week in the UK are being diagnosed with cancer and the incidence is rising annually, however childhood cancer is still vastly underfunded and under researched, with only a couple of treatments specifically developed for childhood cancer, yet there are over three hundred different types and subtypes of childhood cancer which are biologically different to adult cancers we still have a huge amount of work to do to give these children a better chance of a future. To date we have helped over 350 families, these are some of the ways we help children and families affected by Childhood Cancer.

Reece’s Retreat

Reece’s Retreat

Helping patients and families reconnect and have some respite from the endless hospital stays, invasive procedures and harsh treatments. At one of the most difficult and distressing times imaginable, patients and families can struggle to keep the family unit intact, often one parent is away for extended periods leaving siblings confused and often traumatised. Over 80% of families fighting childhood cancer also suffer some level of financial hardship and by providing breaks at Reece’s Retreat and helping with spending money grants we offer a much-welcomed time for families to reconnect and relax.
We have recently extended this support to families bereaved by childhood cancer to offer them time and space to grieve and find their new normal as a family.
